Hull City player ratings as very few stand out on tough Carabao Cup defeat

Daily Mail · William Jackson

Lewie Coyle: Strong in the first half but struggled as Sunderland looked to pile pressure on in the second. 6

Lucas Herrington: Looked very comfortable before the break. Was tested a little more in the second but handled everything relatively well. 7

Nobel Mendy: Only played 45 minutes but won everything that came his way. 7

Matt Targett: Steady away at left-back. Probably didn't do enough to take his chance and put any real pressure on Ryan Giles. 6

Jens Hjerto-Dahl: Had a couple of decent touches but the game largely passed him by. Didn't look comfortable with the pace of the game at points. 6

Lucas Gourna-Douath: Another who was decent enough in the first but really struggled in the second. Booked after a lapse in concentration. 6

Matt Crooks: Stood out in the first half on his return from injury. Moved the ball well and seemed to be pop up all over the park. 7

Mohamed-Ali Cho: Needs to be a lot better if he's to put any sort of pressure on Mo Belloumi. 6

Sorba Thomas: Put in a peach of a ball for Joe Gelhardt towards the end and looked a threat at times. Kept battling without too much joy. 6

Robinio Vaz: Should have won a penalty in the first five minutes. Showcased his strength and tenacity to latch onto balls. Tired in the second half. 6

John Egan (Mendy 46): A few shaky moments after stepping off the bench at half-time. Booked and looked to pick up a knock. 6

Joe Gelhardt (Crooks 60): Missed City's best chance of the game as he spooned Thomas' cross over the bar. 5

Christos Mouzakitis (Vaz 60): Difficult debut. Showed Glimpses. 6

Regan Slater (Gourna-Douath 60): Chased everything in midfield but couldn't make too much of an impact. 6

Elliot Stroud (Targett 76): Struggled to make an impact after stepping off the bench. 5

Not used: Archie Howard, Ryan Giles, Oscar Zambrano, Kieran Dowell.
