The Brazilian was signed for a club record £26.5m deal in the summer, arriving from French club Toulouse.

Gary O'Neil had seen big potential in the 22-year-old during his time managing Strasbourg in Ligue 1 last season, but warned Blues fans that they may need to give a relatively inexperienced 'project' signing time to adapt.

The powerful front man has hit the ground running though, starting the first five Premier League games and providing two goals an assist.

"It's an intense league, very physical, high tempo all the time," he says, discussing the transition to English football in an interview for Premier League Studios.

"The tempo is also high in Ligue 1, but you get more time on the ball. Tactically, it's flawless here. There are a lot of transitions.

"It would be nice to be up there with the top scorers [in the division], but we'll see what happens. You can't say what's going to happen because it's my first year in this league, the biggest league in the world.

"My dream is to keep the team in the Premier League and try to bring a lot of goals and assists."

Liam Delap top scored for Ipswich in their last Premier League season (12 goals).

Only six players scored 15+ Premier League goals in 2025/26, with a further 15 netting 10-14. Among the latter was Zian Flemming, who bagged 11 goals for Burnley before making a £17m summer switch to Town and then scoring a late winner on his debut at Crystal Palace.

Emersonn also faces competition for minutes from a rejuvenated Chuba Akpom, who has scored against Manchester United and Arsenal in the opening weeks of this campaign.

During the current three-week international break, 10 Ipswich players went away to represent their countries, while the rest of the squad had a warm weather training camp in Spain that included a 1-0 friendly win against La Liga side Espanyol.

The Blues return to competitive action with a game against Fulham, who have made a five-game winless start in the league (D2 L3), at Portman Road on Saturday (3pm).
