49ers and Leeds chief Paraag Marathe to hunt for new manager after Rangers exit

Leeds Live · Isaac Johnson

Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe will be required to partake in the hiring of a new manager this summer after Danny Rohl’s exit from Rangers was confirmed on Wednesday.

The 49ers are part of the consortium that took over the Scottish giants in May 2025, with Marathe initially appointed as vice-chairman. He relinquished that title last February after conversations with UEFA over multi-club ownership [MCO].

The decision came two days before UEFA’s deadline for when clubs need to make sure they are compliant with MCO rules ahead of the following season. At the time, Leeds had an outside shot of Europe amid their progress in the FA Cup.

Marathe, though, confirmed earlier this month that he is still very much involved with the boardroom processes at Ibrox. “[I have the] same involvement," he said.

"Very, very involved. I'm very interested, I'm very passionate about it. Also, there were the MCO rules, things that sort of prevented official board status for the moment, and that could change back too. But very much still involved the same."

Marathe is expected therefore, alongside Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh, to initiate a search for a new manager at Ibrox, with the club mutually agreeing the exit of head coach Rohl - who only joined in October, and now joins RB Salzburg.

The next boss will be the third permanent manager the 49ers have appointed since taking over the club just over a year ago, with Russell Martin being hired last June before being dismissed and replaced by Rohl in October.

Of course, the firm has not enacted a change of manager at Leeds since taking over, with Daniel Farke remaining in situ for all three years. Having stuck with the German through a shaky spell in November, the 49ers now seem likely to offer Farke a new deal after survival was secured with three games to go.
