Farke's verdict on Harry Wilson start to season amid double Leeds XI omission

Daniel Farke is confident Harry Wilson will find his stride at Leeds United before long, admitting the attacker has not yet been at his top tilt.

Wilson has been omitted from the last two Premier League starting line-ups and as a result has had to contend with two appearances off the bench - already half of the amount he tallied at former club Fulham last season.

After a good showing upon starting the opening day win over Nottingham Forest, the free summer signing played a role in Leeds’ comeback as a half-time substitute in the 1-1 draw at Brentford.

But his 17-minute outing at Brighton & Hove Albion left fans underwhelmed amid a lack of creativity and his loss of ball during duels. Across all his league games so far, his personal xG stands at 0.01 with his expected assist rating standing at 0.07.

His past two line-up snubs have been notable given Wilson was one player brought in to elevate the ceiling of the squad this summer. Asked about Wilson’s start to life at Elland Road ahead of Wednesday’s League Cup tie at Chelsea, Farke said: “We're all happy to have Harry.

“But it's normal when you have played for so years for a special club with a special way of playing… you can be the best player in the world, but you need a bit of time to adapt to a different surrounding.

“It always takes a bit until you have settled in with a new house and to get used to new faces, new names, and also a bit of a different style of playing.

“We we play with a different style of football in comparison to Fulham. His position also is very similar, but also slightly different at least. And for that it was also always normal that he would need time to adapt. But I'm happy with Harry. Top behavior, top professional, works very hard.”

Farke added: “First game day, he was in the starting 11. We won the game against Nottingham. He also played his part. He's perhaps not that much in the spotlight so far in terms of goals and assists, like it was last season.

“Yeah, of course, in these terms, he's also hoping that he steps up, but you know, at the moment we have many, many games, and for that we'll always rotate a bit more. And of course, it's then perhaps also a bit more difficult if he has just whatever for 20 minutes on the pitch to deliver with this topic in comparison to if we would play him the whole 90 minutes.

“And for that it was also a bit difficult in the last two game days, perhaps to add a few numbers. But there's a chance also in the next weeks and many games. Overall, he's on a good path. I think he's not there with 100% but this is just due to the fact that he needs to adapt to a bit of a different style. And we are all very confident that we will also show his class in front of the goal.”
