Latest Leeds transfer stance on Julian Brandt amid Daniel Farke no.10 hint

Leeds United are still interested in exploring a deal for experienced 48-cap Germany international Julian Brandt, amid speculation that a Premier League move now looks more likely.

A handful of Serie A clubs who could offer European football are said to hold an interest in the free agent, whose Borussia Dortmund contract has now expired, but reports from Italy suggest that Brandt may well end up in England.

Leeds remain admirers and it has emerged that conversations have been held with Brandt's father and agent, Jurgen. But there is rival interest in the 30-year-old, who could favour teams who can offer minutes in Europe. Brandt has played in the Champions League for the past four seasons and in European competition in each of the past nine years.

United’s ongoing interest in the playmaker suggests Daniel Farke is still keen on a natural number 10 option, most likely one who can also play on the flank, despite the arrival of Harry Wilson.

Wilson, who was acquired as a free agent this summer and has just enjoyed his first week at Thorp Arch, is an attacker who can play on the flank and in a wide number 10 berth but is not considered a natural 10.

The only such senior player currently on the books is Brenden Aaronson - not due back in pre-season until July 27, during the summer tour of the US - who has a year left on his Leeds contract.

Meanwhile, talks remain ongoing with Southampton over Shea Charles. Leeds are considered frontrunners but are not afraid to walk away and move onto other targets if they feel discussions are not leading anywhere.

As things stand, Leeds will fly out to the US on Tuesday having made two signings; Wilson and £34m Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemovic, who completed his transfer on Friday. He will join up with the squad during the US tour.

Sweden World Cup star Gabriel Gudmundsson is due to rejoin the squad around July 23 while it is possible, albeit not confirmed, that Noah Okafor could miss the whole of the tour after Switzerland reached the quarter-finals of the tournament.
