Leeds predicted XI vs Chelsea amid big Joe Rodon call for FA Cup semi-final

Leeds Live · Isaac Johnson

That is the case for Pascal Struijk, who sat out the 2024 Championship play-off final through injury. He, like several other squad members may feel an extra inner drive to right the wrongs of their last Wembley visit.

Ultimately, not everyone will get onto the pitch nor start. Daniel Farke will end up leaving players disappointed although the manager’s hierarchy has been clear for a while now so those left on the bench might not be overly shocked.

Although there is one area of the pitch that Farke has to make a tight call on. While it seems clear that Lucas Perri will get the nod in goal, who makes the back line - or more aptly who is left out - is less clear.

Jayden Bogle sustained a hit to the foot against Bournemouth but is expected to make the squad for Sunday, as is Joe Rodon who replaced him at half-time. Farke says he has been careful to reintroduce Rodon having come back from his ankle injury way ahead of schedule.

The defender was rusty at the Vitality Stadium but for understandable reasons. It’s such a tight call, but given Rodon has experience of playing at Wembley before, Farke might indeed give him the nod.

Justin - who hasn't played at Wembley - was the preferred pick the last time it was a shoot-out between him and Bogle on the right and so he could start, with Gabriel Gudmundsson on the other flank. Alongside Rodon in the back three will be Jaka Bijol and Pascal Struijk.

The midfield is perhaps a simpler pick. With Anton Stach touch-and-go for Sunday and Ilia Gruev out for the season with a meniscus knee injury, Ao Tanaka’s form makes him a dead cert pick alongside captain Ethan Ampadu.

Ahead of them, in a 3-4-2-1 formation, is the in-form Noah Okafor and the industrious Brenden Aaronson. Dominic Calvert-Lewin will start up top in what will be his first club game at Wembley, following his England appearance there in March.

Leeds predicted XI: Perri; Rodon, Bijol, Struijk; Justin, Ampadu, Tanaka, Gudmundsson; Okafor, Aaronson; Calvert-Lewin.
