Managing Leeds as World Cup duo join and Brazilian's release clause triggered

Centre-back Pascal Struijk is the most significant of those after joining Brighton in a deal that could rise to £20million. However, the exits of goalkeepers Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier have left a void between the posts, with Lucas Perri also supposedly closing in on an agreement to join Torino.

Recruiting new talent between the posts has to be a major priority for Leeds in the coming weeks. Despite Perri potentially heading to the exit at some point this summer, the departures of Darlow and Meslier leave 33-year-old Alex Cairns as the only other senior stopper in the squad right now.

Parma are looking to capitalise on Zion Suzuki's fine form for Japan at the World Cup and are reportedly demanding upwards of £26m for their stopper. That would represent a healthy profit on the £8m they spent to acquire him from Urawa Red Diamonds just two years ago.

However, that figure could still represent value for a 23-year-old, 6'3" talent with plenty of senior experience in today's market. Aston Villa were being linked with the player prior to the World Cup, while Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with interest.

Suzuki, who has 28 senior caps for Japan, would find some friendly company at Leeds in international team-mate Ao Tanaka. For a more budget-friendly option, the Daily Mail reported in June that Leeds were interested in Braga and Czech Republic goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek, who is valued closer to £12.5m.

Leeds still need to settle personal terms and conduct a medical with Muharemovic before he can be considered their player. But assuming all goes well and the Bosnian signs, then Nico Elvedi stands out as the ideal follow-up in central defence.

Muharemovic, 23, makes a lot of sense as the younger, flashier signing in an area of serious need. He replaces Struijk in that key left-sided central defender role, especially amid rumours that Sebastian Bornauw could also be bound for the exit.

However, Switzerland international Elvedi could be just as critical in sewing together a new-look defence full of moving parts. The Borussia Monchengladbach veteran features a much more modest price tag of just £8m, but could be an understated coup, similar to what Nordi Mukiele gave Sunderland last season.

Leeds find themselves in a tricky position at left-back, where Gabriel Gudmundsson is very much the undisputed choice as things stand. However, Farke needs both cover for the position and a candidate to step in as a starter in the event Gudmundsson were to leave, given the level of interest he's supposedly attracting.

Step forward, Mauro Junior, who has spent almost a decade with PSV but may now be ready for a new challenge. Dutch newspaper Voetbal International reported earlier this summer that Leeds were ready to challenge Porto for the Brazilian's signature, with the player available for around £15m.

That's affordable enough to add depth at left-back without being so expensive that Junior would have to displace Gudmundsson right away. And in an ideal world, the added competition would hopefully get even more out of the Swede, who is aware of the reported interest from Chelsea.
