It's here. The 2026 summer transfer window is officially open for business and that means Leicester City can finally sign players.
Up until now, despite the 2025/26 season ending 44 days ago, City and clubs in England have been unable to 'officially' complete any transfers. There have been announcements of some beforehand but June 15 is the date where they become official.
For Leicester, there has been little noise. In fact, apart from confirmation that Ricardo Pereira, Jordan Ayew, Patson Daka and Jamaal Lascelles will all leave upon the expiry of their contracts, nothing.
That has been quite alarming considering the club are about to embark on only their second ever season in League One. The Foxes are currently at their lowest-ever point and yet there are still certain players at the club.
There are mitigating circumstances behind why that is. For example, the end of May/start of June is always somewhat quiet in football with holidays and people within clubs taking a break. This year's World Cup also takes something's out of club hands.

As well as that, each player will have their own cases. Harry Winks, who will probably exit after his fall-outs, will be desperate to get his transfer done quickly, while a player with time on their contract, such as Oliver Skipp, will be 50/50 on leaving.
Leicester’s manager situation is also a contributing factor. It’s not yet known who will take control at the King Power Stadium, although Russell Martin is the favourite. It’s understood that once that decision is made, they will have their say on the playing squad.
Despite the criticism placed at the club’s door, it’s expected that work has already been done in regards to transfers already. Enquiries would have been made for players - to leave and come in - and some deals may be closer than others.
However, the problem the club have had in recent windows, dating back years now, is how long it takes to get the wheels turning. Too many times have City come into a window with optimism that x, y and z will be out the club early on, yet mid-August and there’s a scramble to sell them and they either stay or leave for pennies.
Just 12 months ago, after being relegated from the Premier League with a poor team, there were no improvements made until deadline day. That can’t happen again.
A common complaint also made by the fanbase is how there never seems to be anything prepared for the window opens. Clubs in League One have already announced transfers and it wouldn’t be a surprise if more deals came out in the public in the next 48 hours.
But at Seagrave, silence.
This summer, with the manager situation and an exodus expected to play out over the course of the next two-and-a-bit months, it would be permitted if the ‘reset’ button is pressed with efficiency.
One key date that will push the needle for City is July 1. The start of the month will open the door to a new financial year and that usually is the beginning of the bulk of business.
LeicestershireLive understands that Bilal El Khannouss’ permanent move to Stuttgart will go through then. The Bundesliga outfit have already confirmed the move after his season-long loan, which triggered the obligation of around £14.6m.
The Moroccan moved to Leicester in August 2024 for a fee in the region of £21m and impressed in the Premier League. Despite the initial fee seeing City receive less than what they paid, it’s understood that the club have made a small profit due to the large loan fee paid by the German side.
With pre-season plans already in place with the first friendly taking place on July 11, the Foxes have 27 days to do as much business as possible to get the new squad together.
