The Foxes took the lead inside 17 minutes with Riis scoring his fifth in League One since joining the club. Will Smallbone's corner to the near post was helped along by Caleb Okoli and a Wigan defender, before Riis tapped home on the goal line.
City had two chances to extend their advantage, with Riis inches away from heading home another corner. Kamari Doyle was also robbed of another goal in LE2 when James Carragher blocked his effort.
The second half was a non-starter for the first 15 minutes from both sides, but City demonstrated their class with a simple second. Excellent play from Sammy Braybrooke in the middle of the pitch gifted Luke Thomas acres of space down the left, before the wing-back picked Riis out perfectly inside the box.
Wigan looked to get back into the game after going two goals behind but did so with very little threat. But it was Leicester who added to the scoring with Reid's first goal of the season.
After Harry Souttar was brought down inside the box, the forward coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to round-off a perfect evening's work for the Foxes.
This is how the Leicester players rated in against Wigan:
Alex McCarthy: Comfortable save to deny Scott Hogan just moments after Riis' opener. Pulled off a brilliant save at 3-0 to maintain his clean sheet. 7
Warren O'Hora: Much better than he was against Luton, sweeping up the loose balls and keeping it simple. Looked tired late on but ensured he tracked back and stayed strong. 6
Harry Souttar: Sweeper in the back three, Souttar got all his passes spot on from deep. The defender won all of his duels and controlled the backline late on. 7
Caleb Okoli: Repaid Martin's trust in him with a better performance. Solid and strong in his defensive battles and actually looked confident on the ball. 7
Will Alves: City struggled to get the ball to him, but when they did he was electric. Caused all sorts of issues down the right in the second half before coming off. 6
Will Smallbone: Booked early on but composed himself to control things in midfield. Looked a class above the Wigan midfielders and got a valuable hour in his legs. 6
Louis Page: The best he's played in recent weeks, contributing in attack and defence. Some elegant touches and excellent pieces of play in the middle of the park. 7

Luke Thomas: Really struggled at times on the ball early on, but he played a sensational cross for Riis' second. Moved into defensive midfield late on and ran his heart out. 6
Conor Chaplin: Non-stop in his running when City didn't have the ball. Looking sharper when he did and got another hour in his legs. 6
Kamari Doyle: Looked tired whenever he needed to run after the ball but played some decent touches in good spots. Confidence is growing. 6
Emil Riis: Seven goals since joining at the start of September, how good is it having a striker that can score goals? Unreal centre-forward play and something Leicester have been missing for so long. 9
Liam Cullen: Some of his touches were lacking in positions he had to do better, but he didn’t stop running when he needed to. 6
Sammy Braybrooke: Played deeper than he has done this season and impressed immediately. Some excellent pieces of play early on before some sloppy passes, but defensively quality.
Wes Burns: Actually did some excellent pieces of defending down his side when Leicester needed to keep Wigan out. He brought energy into the side when it was required. 6
Ilari Kangasniemi: Played at left-back to help City keep the clean sheet, job done. But he actually proved to be a threat as a wing-back with some teasing runs and should have won a penalty. 6
Bobby De Cordova-Reid: First goal of the season will do him a world of good. Took penalty and converted with confidence. Pressed the backline well as well. 7
