Arne Slot can't reassure Liverpool fans with four-word Mo Salah injury admission

Salah was forced off shortly before the hour of the Reds’ 3-1 Premier League win over Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday afternoon while clutching his hamstring. The 33-year-old, who will leave at the end of the season on a free transfer, disappeared straight down the tunnel for treatment and will undergo scans to ascertain the extent of the damage.

With only four games remaining, there is a possibility Salah – who made a point of waving to the Anfield crowd as he slowly left the field – may have played his 440th and last appearance for Liverpool.

But when asked on Salah’s fitness, Reds boss Slot said: “We don’t know, that is the best answer I can give. If I say there might be a chance, that is probably the headline.

“We simply don’t know, but what we do know is that the season is over in four weeks. There are not a lot of games to be played, so we have to wait and see how his injury is and if he is able to return to play.

“What I do know about Mo is that for all these years he has taken so good care of his body that he will have the minimum time required to recover from an injury. Let’s hope for the best that he’s available.

“But another injury after a win, that sums up our season.”

Alexander Isak opened the scoring in the first half with his first league goal at Anfield since signing for Liverpool for a British record £125million from Newcastle United last September.

Andy Robertson added a second and while Daniel Munoz pulled a controversial goal back for Palace with Reds goalkeeper Freddie Woodman injured, Florian Wirtz’s strike in stoppage time moved Slot’s side up into fourth place.
