Liverpool fan throws ball at Munoz's head after controversial Palace goal

Jeers echoed around the stadium as frustrated spectators voiced their displeasure at Munoz, while a stray ball was launched in his direction - striking the back of his head. As he turned to face supporters beyond the advertising boards, the Colombian was greeted with several gestures before referee Andy Madley approached to speak with him.

Maxence Lacroix also moved across to stand alongside his team-mate, before Munoz completed the throw-in and the match resumed. The incident followed Munoz's goal against Liverpool, which had been greeted with derision given the manner in which it was scored.

Ismaila Sarr found himself one-on-one with Freddie Woodman before shooting from close range, with the Liverpool goalkeeper blocking the effort with his leg. Woodman instantly collapsed to the turf in visible discomfort, appearing to have twisted his knee in the process, before the ball fell to Munoz on the edge of the box.

While Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister raised their arms appealing for play to be stopped, with their goalkeeper lying stricken on the pitch, the referee's whistle remained silent.

Munoz seized the moment to chip the ball over the Liverpool backline and into the net, wheeling away in celebration - his goal standing firm fierce protests from several Reds players.

Arne Slot was visibly incensed on the touchline, the Dutchman equally convinced that play ought to have been halted to allow Woodman to receive treatment.

As Armin Pecsi readied himself to come on as Woodman's replacement, the third-choice goalkeeper was ultimately able to carry on following medical attention on the pitch.

The incident came during a match in which Liverpool claimed all three points against Palace at Anfield, courtesy of strikes from Alexander Isak, Andy Robertson and Florian Wirtz.

Yet the victory was not without its concerns for the Reds. Mohamed Salah was forced off just 15 minutes into the second half, seemingly having picked up a hamstring problem.

Jeremie Frimpong was brought on in his stead, with growing fears that the substitution may have marked Salah's final appearance in a Liverpool shirt.

The Egyptian forward has confirmed he will depart the club after nine years at the end of the season, as the Reds prepare to navigate life without their inspirational figurehead.

Should Salah be ruled out for Liverpool's forthcoming fixtures against Manchester United, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Brentford, supporters may have witnessed him pull on the shirt for the very last time.
