Liverpool's dream attack after Yan Diomande transfer as Olise replaces Salah

Liverpool Echo · Fasika Zelealem

Despite last summer's expenditure of £450million on new talent, the likes of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz have struggled with injury and a lack of form while many of the club's highest-performing players last season have seen their performance levels drop off dramatically.

It's set to be another summer of change at Anfield with Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson finishing their chapter in Merseyside after nine glorious years. Replacing such iconic figures on and off the pitch will prove to be one of the biggest tasks for Arne Slot and Richard Hughes this summer.

The pair must also address the imbalance in the squad, starting off with the club's forward line and the lack of pace and dynamism that was exposed upon the departures of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez last season.

One player who has been routinely linked with a move to Anfield over the past few months has been RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande. The 19-year-old is only in his first season at the club but has impressed greatly with 13 goals and nine assists across all competitions.

Reported to be valued at €100 million (£87m), Diomande may be yet another Bundesliga acquisition for the Reds and given his versatility play across across both wings, he could be a valuable asset for Slot.

While he's predominantly played on the right wing this season, he's a right-footed forward player and may be equally comfortable on the left-wing and would certainly prove to be stern competition for Cody Gakpo who has endured a hugely underwhelming campaign.

The right-wing spot is likely to be Liverpool's biggest priority because how do you go about replacing a player that has scored 257 goals and provided 122 assists in his nine years at the club? You most probably don't, but the club's best bet in securing Salah's successor is in acquiring Bayern Munich star Michael Olise, who has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool.

Since joining the German giants from Crystal Palace in 2024, the France international has bagged consecutive Bundesliga titles with the club potentially on for the Treble this season.

Forming quite the formidable trio alongside ex-Liverpool star Diaz and Harry Kane, Olise has scored 18 goals and provided a whopping 29 assists in 45 games across all competitions. The 24-year-old possesses the goal threat and playmaking abilities that have made Salah such a force for almost a decade on that right-flank.

Should he make a move to Anfield this summer, he'd be the same age Salah was when he signed for the club in 2017 but already possessing the status of being one of the world's best players. The right-wing spot will be undoubtedly his with the only question remaining is how Slot will go about bringing out the best in Olise, Wirtz, Isak and Ekitike upon his return from injury.
