Virgil van Dijk sends message to Liverpool fans - 'We need something special'

The Reds trail the European champions 2-0 from the French capital last week, when Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia did the damage to Arne Slot's men in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.

Slot admitted after that game that PSG deserved to win by a wider margin and with the tie still retrievable for the Premier League champions, Van Dijk has urged match-goers to help them as much as possible on the night.

"They will probably be the most important factor, together with our performance," Van Dijk said.

"I've been very lucky to experience those nights where the connection between the fans and the performance has been unbelievable.

"We need something very special to happen otherwise we will have no chance. If we play like we did in Paris then we will have no chance anyway in my opinion.

"There is an opportunity on Tuesday to come up with a good game plan and fight for it for 90 plus minutes. I am really looking forward to it.

"It's a privilege to be in the quarter-finals regardless. We shouldn't take that for granted.

"We have to remember we are Liverpool. We have to make it a memorable night."

Liverpool warmed up for Tuesday night's do-or-die contest with a 2-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.

That win over Marco Silva's men has put the Reds in the driving seat to secure a top-five finish, with sixth-placed Chelsea losing to Man City on Sunday. Liverpool are now four points clear of the Londoners ahead of Sunday's Merseyside derby with Everton.

PSG had the weekend off after their request to have their Ligue 1 match against RC Lens postponed was approved.
