Man United could have Casemiro replacement for free in transfer masterstroke

Manchester Evening News · Aaron Morris

The defensive midfielder made his full debut for the Tigers on Monday evening against stiff competition in Coventry City. Despite Hull sitting fifth in the league standings, some 16 points away from Frank Lampard's league leaders, they managed to hold Coventry to a goalless draw at the MKM Stadium.

As per the Hull Daily Mail, Collyer enjoyed an impressive full debut for the Tigers on the evening. The publication wrote of the youngster, who they rated 8.5/10: "A first start for the on-loan Manchester United midfielder, and he started well, winning the ball early, and looking neat and tidy on the ball.

"Probably City's best player in an absorbing first period and that continued in the second. Deserved his standing ovation when he departed."

Despite already having Collyer at the club and the youngster seemingly thriving at Championship level, it remains highly unlikely that United will choose to utilise him as a replacement for Casemiro any time soon. That's despite not having to pay a penny for the talent's services considering he is already on the Reds' books.

Collyer only signed his first professional contract at Old Trafford in 2024, and is still incredibly early into his footballing career. He has also only made six Premier League appearances for United thus far, and could require more experience at the highest levels before he is rolled out - especially considering the boots he would be filling.

A seasoned veteran of the game with a trophy-laden career, Casemiro has been instrumental to the success of United this season - racking up seven goals and two assists from 29 outing in the English top flight, despite being a defensive-minded player.

However, the 34-year-old broke the news earlier this year that 2025/26 will be his last dance with the club, as he looks to the next stage of his career away from Greater Manchester. As a result, the club have quite the search on their hands to fill the void that Casemiro will leave in his exit.

A number of names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, including the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Eduardo Camavinga and Cristian Romero. However, priority number one at present looks to be Elliot Anderson.

That value could also soar even higher dependent on how well the midfielder performs at this summer's World Cup in North America, as he is expected to travel with Thomas Tuchel's Three Lions considering his form and reliability.

However, United will not be alone in their pursuit of Anderson. It is also suggested that Manchester City are eying the 23-year-old, although their current focus is thought to be on extending Rodri's contract which is set to expire at the end of next season.
