Jaissle explains why Amar Dedic came off at Millwall and shares mixed emotions

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international started off well enough, but then struggled as the first half wore on, before his number came up for the start of the second half. Indeed, Jaissle opted to replace the ex-Benfica man with England star Tino Livramento after revealing Dedic had suffered muscle issues.

Jaissle, speaking at his Press conference after the game, said: "Amar felt his hamstring a little bit and we did not want to take any risks. But it was also planned that Tino Livramento got more minutes than last time [against Bournemouth]."

Jaissle paid the Carabao Cup full respect with a strong XI and just three changes to the line-up that drew with AFC Bournemouth. In came Fabian Schar, Jacob Ramsey and Jacob Murphy from the start as the United boss opted to go full pelt for the cup game with the Magpies not back in action until Monday night's trip to Leeds.

But Jaissle said: "If I had changed many things, it would still be a Premier League XI because we have a really balanced squad. The decision was to play like this. There are always many aspects to consider. We had some reasons.

"We are pleased, and now we have a couple of days to regenerate and repair so that we are ready for the challenge of Leeds."

Jaissle enjoyed the post-game celebrations with the 2,000 travelling fans at the New Den, and said he hopes to build on things moving forward as he looks to make the bond even stronger.

He said: "It's something that makes me feel so proud. I felt that quite early when I joined, I knew there could be unity and a synergy between the fans, the players and the staff.

"So we showed that now. This is just the start, and we can build on it without losing the reality."

Newcastle now have five days to prepare for that clash against Leeds United at Elland Road with Jaissle still unbeaten in his first five matches in all competitions.
