Footage shows knifeman confronted by Reds fan stumbling around before attack

Prosecutors have said Anthony Williams, 33, “brought terror” to the Doncaster to London LNER service on November 1 last year.

Williams was confronted by Nottingham Forest fan Stephen Crean, who was on his way home from a Reds game when he was caught up in the attack.

Mr Crean, a lifelong Forest fan, suffered injuries during the confrontation, including to his left hand, which has had a significant impact on his life.

On Tuesday (November 3), jurors at Cambridge Crown Court were shown video footage of the attacker in the moments before the “rampage” took place.

Moments later he could be seen to come out again and beginning to move around aimlessly by the train doors, outside of the carriage.

In one clip, the man could be seen slumped with his head and hands against the wall of the train.

He then takes an unmarked bottle from his pocket, swigs it, and struggles to put it back in his hoodie.

As he entered one of the train carriages, he was captured wobbling from side to side, before producing a large knife.

Other passengers then fled all around him while he moved through the train.

Judge Mr Justice Calver earlier told jurors at Cambridge Crown Court that whether Williams carried out the attacks is not in question but they must consider whether he intended to kill those individuals when he carried out the attacks.

Williams denies 10 counts of attempted murder from the LNER train, along with three counts of attempted murder relating to an incident in Peterborough on October 31, and one count relating to an incident on a DLR train in the early hours of November 1.
