Nottingham Forest appointment confirmed after 'detailed recruitment process'

Nottingham Forest have appointed Dylan Malicheff as their new B Team head coach.

The 34-year-old links up with the Reds from Anderlecht. He was most recently in charge of the Belgian outfit’s Under-18s side.

Malicheff’s arrival follows the surprise departure of Warren Joyce from the Nigel Doughty Academy earlier this summer. The former Manchester United stalwart joined Forest’s youth set-up five years ago, initially as Under-18s head coach and then as B Team boss.

Malicheff said: “I’m really looking forward to working in an environment where the staff operates at the highest level every day, with a clear focus on preparing players for their individual development and the demands of first-team football.

“For me, this is an exciting challenge. I want to help players maximise their individual potential and accelerate their development, so they are ready to make the step towards the first team as quickly as possible.

“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to join Nottingham Forest. Together with the staff, I’ll give everything every day to achieve our objectives and create the best possible environment for our players to develop and succeed.”

Malicheff started coaching in his Belgian homeland, with KV Mechelen. Initially taking up a role as youth coach, he worked his way up to be assistant head coach of the Under-21s at the age of 29.

A move to the Netherlands followed, with Malicheff spending 18 months as assistant head coach at Helmond Sport in what was his first taste of senior football. He went on to have a two-year stint at Club Brugge before heading to Anderlecht.

Head of academy Chris McGuane said: “I am delighted to welcome Dylan to Nottingham Forest as he takes up the position as B Team head coach. He arrives at the club with an extensive coaching background and will play a key role in developing our players from the academy into the first team.

“Through a detailed recruitment process, Dylan shone through with a desire to strive for the highest standards across our daily working environment. Having worked across a number of top clubs in Europe at both Academy and First Team level, Dylan has a track record in developing young players.

“Myself, Andy (Reid), and all of the staff are excited to be working with Dylan as we aim to continue producing players who are able to play at the highest level for Nottingham Forest graduating from the academy.”

Malicheff’s arrival comes on the back of Forest academy graduate James Perch returning to the club as a national academy scout. Sixteen years after his last game in the Garibaldi, his role encompasses the youth development and professional development phases, working for the academy from ages 13 to 21.
