Oliver Glasner provides injury update on Nottingham Forest trio

One way or another Nottingham Forest’s numbers will be bolstered when they make the trip to Portugal for a 12-day training camp next week.

Head coach Oliver Glasner is eyeing up signings for his squad as he looks to put his stamp on the Reds. Free agent midfielder Xaver Schlager is in line to put pen to paper, while the club are expected to make a second bid for Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Bergvall.

But regardless of whether any deals get done in time for Forest’s trip abroad, there will be fresh faces for Glasner to run the rule over. Chris Wood and Ibrahim Sangare will rejoin their teammates while Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to step up his recovery from injury.

A thigh injury that required surgery ended the latter’s 2025/26 campaign prematurely, while full-back Nicolo Savona (knee) and centre-back Murillo (hamstring) were also on the treatment table. The trio were not involved in Saturday’s 2-0 friendly win over Notts County as the Reds made a winning start to pre-season.

"We think Callum will return quickest. And then Murillo and Savona will take a little bit of time; they are progressing with their rehab, whereas Callum should be partly integrated on Monday,” Glasner said. “We always have to see the reaction after surgery, so we have to be careful.

"Murillo the same. He is already training and doing good rehab sessions, but now it is increasing the intensity and getting him back to normal training.”

Striker Wood and midfielder Sangare were not at Meadow Lane due to their recent international commitments at the World Cup. When asked about potential transfer business, Glasner quipped the imminent return of the duo means he will have some new players to meet.

"There will definitely be two new faces for me, in Chris Wood and Ibrahim Sangare,” the Austrian smiled. “I'm really looking forward to having them back.

"I know the dominant role they played for Forest, with Chris Wood scoring more than 20 goals the season before last. And Ibrahim was one of the dominant central midfielders for Forest.

“I'm looking forward to them arriving. We expect one or two new players as well, but let’s see.”

Winger Dan Ndoye, however, will not join up with the group in Portugal. Of the club’s World Cup representatives, his tournament lasted the longest as Switzerland made it to the quarter-finals.

"He will be later,” Glasner explained. “Every international player who was involved in the World Cup will have at least three weeks off so he will return after the Portugal camp.

"It was a very long season and he played a lot of games, including the preparation for the World Cup. It is now time for him to relax so he can be mentally and physically fresh when he comes back.”
