Transfer target 'open' to Nottingham Forest move as second bid submitted

Nottingham Post · Sarah Clapson

Nottingham Forest are said to have made a second bid for Feyenoord full-back Givairo Read.

Earlier this month, it emerged the Reds had seen a £15 million offer for the young defender knocked back. The Dutch side were said to be looking for in the region of at least £21m for the Netherlands Under-21 international.

Right-back is an area of the pitch Forest want to strengthen as they prepare for the 2026/27 campaign under new head coach Oliver Glasner. And it seems they have tried their luck for Read once again.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Reds have put forward an improved proposal for the defender. The revised package is identified as being worth €20m (£17m).

The 20-year-old is said to be “open” to a move to the City Ground, making personal terms “not an issue”. Romano has said it is a case of “deal under way”.

Read has also been on the radar of Manchester City and Bayern Munich thanks to an eye-catching couple of seasons with Feyenoord. He signed fresh terms with the Eredivisie outfit last year, keeping him under contract until 2029.

Free agent midfielder Xaver Schlager is Forest’s sole summer signing of the window so far. The Austrian put pen to paper on a two-year deal earlier this week, reuniting him with Glasner after the pair worked together at Wolfsburg.

At 28, Schlager will bring plenty of experience to the Reds squad. However, signing players with the potential to improve and increase in value remains a key part of the club’s transfer strategy - with Read falling into that category.

The right-back spent time in the academies of Zeeburgia and FC Volendam before moving to Feyenoord in 2023. He has made 42 league appearances for the latter and has European experience in both the Champions League and Europa League under his belt.
