Nottingham Forest transfer state of play as summer window officially opens

Nottingham Post · Sarah Clapson

The transfer window is now officially open and it has all the makings of being a big one for Nottingham Forest.

The Reds have until 11pm on September 1 to get deals done. Head coach Vitor Pereira stated before the end of the season his preference was to get the bulk of business completed early, and he also made clear he felt the squad did not require too much work.

There is a strong group already in place at the City Ground; a few tweaks rather than a mass overhaul should be the order of the day. But Forest will want to be pushing for a return to European football when the new Premier League campaign begins, so there is plenty riding on overseeing the right ins and outs.

Manchester City’s interest in Elliot Anderson is unlikely to go away, despite the Etihad Stadium side having had two bids rejected for the midfielder. The most recent offer was worth more than £120 million, reportedly made up of £106m up front and £15m in add-ons.

City are thought to be keen to get a deal completed before Anderson and England begin their World Cup campaign on Wednesday (June 17). However, the Reds will be aware the 23-year-old’s value would likely only increase with a good tournament amid suggestions they are seeking a £130m total package.

Given the question marks about Anderson’s future, it is little surprise a number of midfielders have been linked with moves to the City Ground. Davide Frattesi’s name has been doing the rounds since a £30m bid for the Inter Milan man was rejected in January.

According to Sky Sports Italy, Forest are “preparing” an offer worth €25m (£21m) plus bonuses for the 26-year-old. Such a fee is short of the €30m (£26m) price tag Inter have placed on Frattesi’s head. Roma and Napoli have also been credited with interest in the Italian.

The Reds have continued to be linked with the 22-year-old but fierce competition for his signature is expected this summer. Fulham, Sunderland and West Ham United have also been identified as potential suitors, along with Napoli.

Another player mooted as a possible summer arrival Trentside is defender Jan Ziolkowski. Forest are said to have expressed “concrete interest” in the 21-year-old and now Roma Daily have suggested things have stepped up a notch.

The Italian publication has claimed the Reds have made a verbal offer worth €15m (£13m), although Roma are said to be holding out for €20m (£17m). Brighton and Hove Albion, Bournemouth and West Ham United are also said to be keen on the Poland international.

Meanwhile, according to Football Italia, Inter are eyeing up Reds winger Dan Ndoye. The Serie A champions’ interest could form something of a domino transfer effect.

Inter have identified Ndoye as a “potential alternative” to Marco Palestra, who they want to sign from Atalanta. Amid preparations for Palestra’s expected departure, Atalanta reportedly view Forest full-back Nicolo Savona as the ideal replacement.

Furthermore, Football Italia suggest any potential swoop for Ndoye could “become entwined” with Frattesi’s situation amid the Reds’ interest in the Inter midfielder. It is said selling the latter “could fund” a move for the Forest winger.
