Murphy Cooper set for first Argyle game against Bath City

Tom Cleverley's Pilgrims will play their second pre-season match away to Bath City, of the Southern League Premier South, at Twerton Park on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

Cooper completed a transfer to Argyle from Championship club Queens Park Rangers for a reported fee of £150,000 on Tuesday.

He is expected to share time between the posts for the Pilgrims against Bath with James Storer, the 21-year-old who arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of June.

Cooper played twice for Bath during a one-month spell from QPR in 2021 as injury cover and they are among seven clubs he has played for on loan.

Argyle began their pre-season schedule last Saturday with a 4-1 win away to Plymouth Parkway, who like Bath will also be competing in the Southern League Premier South in 2026/27.

Storer was the Pilgrims' 'keeper for the first hour of the match at Twerton Park before he was replaced by trialist Max Boruc, who Cleverley confirmed afterwards would not be signing for the club.

A number of players could be added to Argyle's squad against Bath after not being involved at Parkway for various reasons.

Ronan Curtis (knee), Alex Hartridge (groin) and Harvey White (calf) were ruled out due to injury issues, while Mathias Ross was attending a funeral in Denmark and Caleb Watts was ill.

Club captain Joe Edwards is continuing to recover from a knee procedure in the summer so defender Wes Harding is set to again lead out Argyle against Bath, as he did at Bolitho Park last weekend.

Bath, who were relegated from National League South last term, have played two pre-season games so far, winning the first one 3-1 away to Larkhall Athletic and then losing 2-0 to Cardiff City under-21s at Twerton Park.

The Romans' squad under manager Scott Bartlett includes two former Argyle players - 37-year-old striker Reuben Reid and defender Ollie Tomlinson.
