Argyle injury setback for Caleb Watts ahead of new season

Watts has not been involved in either of the Pilgrims' first two pre-season games, the 4-1 win at Plymouth Parkway last Saturday and the 3-0 victory over Bath City at Twerton Park yesterday.

Argyle will play their first competitive match of the 2026/27 campaign against Watts's former club, Exeter City, in the Carabao Cup at Home Park on Monday, August 10.

Then, five days later, Stockport County will come to the Theatre of Greens for the League One season-opener for both sides.

On the injury to Watts, Cleverley told Plymouth Live: "He has had an injection for a bit of an ankle issue, to try and settle that down, and that will come with about a three to four-week rehab."

Cleverley had much more encouraging injury updates about club captain Joe Edwards and midfielder Harvey White, the summer signing from Stevenage.

Edwards has been recovering from a knee procedure while White has started training after a calf problem and could make his first Argyle appearance in the pre-season game away to Torquay United on Tuesday night.

Cleverley said: "Joe will train back end of next week. Harvey has trained and shown his quality in three sessions already.

"He's going to be, without putting too much pressure on, a very good signing for us. There is a potential he gets some minutes on Tuesday."

Also missing the match against Bath was midfielder Brendan Wiredu and Cleverley said: "He probably could have played today. He has a slight Achilles niggle which means on the really firm pitches we didn't want to take the risk and flare that up.

"We are not worried about Brendan's issue, and we will potentially see him on Tuesday as well."
