Argyle v Port Vale Live: 10-man Pilgrims pick up vital victory

Plymouth Live · Chris Errington

Tom Cleverley's Pilgrims have had a superb run of results over the second half of the season, after sitting at the bottom of the table in November.

However, their chances of forcing their way into the play-offs suffered a major setback when they drew 1-1 away to Bradford City after leading until the 72nd minute, while Stevenage and Luton Town won on the same evening.

Argyle have actually won more points away from home this season (36) than at the Theatre of Greens (31). They have failed to win either of their last two home games, losing 2-1 against 10-man Bolton Wanderers on Good Friday, April 3 before drawing 2-2 in the Devon derby with Exeter City a fortnight ago.

Vale, whose squad includes former Argyle striker and New Zealand international Ben Waine, had their relegation to League Two confirmed after a 1-0 defeat at Cardiff City on Wednesday night.

It is worth remembering that Argyle now only have one substitution window left in the game. Having been down to 10 players since the fifth minite you would imagine more players will come off the bench for the Pilgrims at some stage over the rest of the match.
