Dobbin reveals Southampton shirt number in first post after signing | Daily Echo

SAINTS signing Lewis Dobbin will wear the number 11 shirt this season, he has revealed in his first social media post since joining the club.

Dobbin, 23, will take the shirt from former striker Ross Stewart, who scored eight goals last campaign before leaving as a free agent in June.

Saints wanted to keep Stewart but failed to agree terms with the former Sunderland man, after missing the deadline to activate an extension clause.

Dobbin signs from Premier League Aston Villa in a transfer worth up to £9million, penning a four-year contract, but is not a Stewart replacement.

He is likely to serve as competition to number 10 Finn Azaz, although the Preston loanee, with 10 league goals last campaign, can also play wide.

On social media site Instagram, Dobbin said: "A new chapter, a fresh challenge. So happy to be able to call this club home.

"Can’t wait to get started and see you all at St Mary’s. Thank you for the warm welcome, UP THE SAINTS! ❤️🤍🏡 1️⃣1️⃣"

The caption accompanied a picture of Dobbin in the press conference room at Staplewood, alongside his family, holding the number 11 shirt.
