The 46 year old has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract at the London Stadium and will take charge for Wednesday’s trip to Cardiff City.

Parker returns to the club where he made 129 appearances between 2007 and 2011, winning Hammer of the Year three consecutive times.

He arrives with an impressive Championship record, having led Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley into the Premier League in 2020, 2022 and 2025.

Parker was also named Championship Manager of the Season in 2024/25 after guiding Burnley to promotion.

His appointment follows a difficult start to life in the second tier for West Ham, who were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Nuno’s final match was Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat by West Bromwich Albion, which left the Hammers eighth in the table.

West Ham also suffered a 3-2 home defeat against Saints on October 24, with Tonda Eckert’s side subsequently moving above them.

Parker will be assisted initially by Steve Potts, Gerard Prenderville and Billy Lepine, while former teammate Mark Noble will work closely with him.

Speaking after his appointment, Parker said: “It is a very proud moment for me to step into this role and return to a club that means so much to me.

“A lot of very fond memories of my time here - four years of probably the best football I played in my career.”

"My energy levels, my enthusiasm, my desire, my passion - it’s absolutely running through and that’s the feeling I had as soon as there was a conversation that this was possible.”
