Svante Ingelsson will be suspended for Stoke City's mid-week Carabao Cup clash with Hull City after a controversial dismissal at Southampton. Stoke are adamant that Sam Edozie was offside before he was fouled in added time by summer signing Ingelsson, who was already on a booking.
Referee Steve Martin awarded a penalty and showed Ingelsson a second caution, sending him for an early bath. Red cards are not competition specific and his one-match ban will apply for Tuesday night's tie at the bet365 Stadium.
Mark Robins had been sure Stoke would have been able to successfully appeal against the decision if Ingelsson had been shown a straight red card but that is not an option for two yellows.
It was rubbing salt into the wounds for the Stoke boss, who had seen his side go toe to toe with Southampton for much of the afternoon only to head back north with a 3-1 defeat.

Robins said: "We were good first half. It was a little bit harsh to go one down but we had started off pretty brightly and that's more like how I want to see us play. I thought we grew into it as well. We got a goal back, which was well worked, and I thought we were in the game - more so than last year, to be fair, which is pleasing - but you know you're in a situation when you're not quite physically there yet with some individuals so those changes are going to have to be made.
"You're hoping that the players who come in are going to pick up from where the others left off and that didn't happen today. It ended up costing us the game.
"We had one situation on the edge of the box where Divin ends up on his left foot because we followed the ball and not the man. He ends up getting it on his left foot, which is where we all know he likes it. If you give him a sight of goal there he is likely to put it in, that's his favourite shot. He's scored that.
"They end up getting a third, which is offside, and i would hope that they would see sense and overturn the red even if they can't overturn the goal that killed the game in the end. They've made an error there. But it was a second yellow so it costs us even more."
