Stoke City team news vs Southampton as three new signings make full debuts

Stoke Sentinel · Peter Smith

Ben Johnson and George Hirst have been immediately handed their Stoke City debuts and Djibril Soumare makes his first start for the club as Mark Robins shakes up his starting Xi at Southampton. Right-back Johnson and striker Hirst have both sealed moves from Ipswich Town in the last couple of days, on loan and a permanent deal respectively.

Johnson's arrival means that Ben Wilmot can shift across to the middle of defence as Bosun Lawal is ruled out with injury. He will partner Ben Gibson, who makes a surprise return at the expense of Luke Graham. You can follow all the action as it happens here.

Hirst takes the place of Million Manhoef in the front line and is expected to get the central role while Sam Gallagher shifts wide. Bae Junho makes his first start of term to support Hirst as a number 10. Lamine Cisse is still not ready to come back into the squad after picking up an injury in training last week.

Soumare comes into midfield in place of Svante Ingelsson, who drops to the bench. He will partner Ethan Galbraith. Italy youth international left-back Laurence Giani is named on the bench for the second time in his career, coincidentally both coming at Southampton.
