Landslide winner in Stoke City player of the season vote

Stoke Sentinel · Peter Smith

The 27-year-old Wales winger joined Stoke from Huddersfield Town last June in an undisclosed deal believed to be worth about £1.5 million. He has been a virtual ever present and directly contributed to 22 goals, including 10 he has scored himself, mostly from the left flank.

He was named in the Championship team of the season last weekend and has now been confirmed as runaway winner of the club award.

Viktor Johansson, who was player of the season last year, will present the trophy on the pitch at the bet365 Stadium at about 2.40pm today ahead of a match against Portsmouth.

Thomas said in an interview for the Stoke website: “It’s an amazing feeling. To get recognition from your manager and teammates is one thing, but to get it from the fans, who come week in, week out, and spend a lot of money to watch you play, it's an honour.

“Before I came here, I felt like there was a stigma around my name and my character. For me it was about changing that.

“I’d now like to think I've done that. I'm still growing and getting better. This is the beginning of a new chapter.”

Former Stoke player of the year Jacob Brown will be in the opposition today, having signed for Portsmouth on loan from Luton Town in February.
