What happened to Gylfi Sigurdsson after disappearing - new life and model wife

Wales Online · Mark Whiley

Sigurdsson remained a first-team fixture for his opening four seasons at Goodison, before being omitted from Everton's final Premier League squad in September 2021. That signalled the start of the former Tottenham man's decline on Merseyside, as he left the club the subsequent summer when his deal ran out without being seen.

A spell in limbo followed before he put pen to paper for Danish side Lyngby Boldklub in June 2023, having held talks with DC United, who were under the management of Wayne Rooney at the time. He left Lyngby after merely six months, though.

He headed back to Iceland, initially with Valur before moving to fellow Reykjavik side Vikingur in February 2025. He appeared in the Europa Conference League qualifying stages at the beginning of this season before being knocked out by Brondby.

The Besta deild karla, Iceland's top-flight division, has just got under way, with Sigurdsson netting Vikingur's goal in their 1-1 draw against Breidablik.

Sigurdsson remains a key figure for his country, having featured in recent friendly matches against Mexico (a 4-0 defeat) and Haiti (a 1-1 draw).

He had spent three years away from the international set-up before being recalled for the Euro 2024 qualifying fixtures against Luxembourg and Liechtenstein.

According to Salary Sport, Sigurdsson boasts a net worth of close to £25m, built up through his years in the Premier League. During his time at Everton, he was reportedly earning £120,000 per week, in excess of £6m annually.

By contrast, he is now understood to be taking home just £2,200 a week (£114,000 a year) at Vikingur, a figure broadly comparable to that of a player in the fourth or fifth tiers of English football.

Sigurdsson is married to Alexandra Iversdottir, a model and former Miss Iceland. Following that achievement, she went on to represent her country at Miss World, where she finished in the top 15.

Much like her husband, Iversdottir has a sporting side, having triumphed in Miss World Sports, a decathlon competition in which Miss World contestants compete against one another across a variety of fitness challenges and activities.

The pair have been wed for almost seven years, having tied the knot at Lake Como, Italy, in June 2019.

The couple first crossed paths in 2010, while Sigurdsson was playing for Reading. They welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Melros Mia Gylfadottir, in May 2021.
