Vipotnik on target from the spot again in Norwich stalemate

Wales Online · Tom Coleman

Zan Vipotnik further strengthened his grip on the Championship's golden boot with an early second-half penalty, before Kenny McClean levelled from the spot himself late on.

The Swans stay 11th following this stalemate, but could edge up to 10th on the final day should they beat Charlton Athletic at the Swansea.com Stadium and Birmingham City drop points.

Matos welcomed Vipotnik back to the starting line-up as part of five changes from the side that beat QPR on Tuesday night and, just like he did in west London, slotted home from the spot to get himself onto the scoresheet yet again.

But the visitors struggled to find any meaningful attacking verve for much of what was admittedly a rather subdued first half.

Malick Yalcouye deflected effort wide early on, but it was the hosts who otherwise enjoyed the better of the opportunities.

Paris Maghoma curled a tame freekick into the arms of Lawrence Vigouroux, who then had to get down well to turn Mohamed Toure's low shot round the post on 15 minutes.

Harry Darling headed over from a corner, Liam Gibbs hit one straight at Vigouroux, who was similarly comfortable in Anis Ben Slimane's near-post shot.

Ronald had a shot blocked out at the other end, but Vigouroux remained the busier of the two keepers, getting down well to deny Magoma ten minutes before half-time, with Cordoba's effort from the resulting corner deflected wide.

Eom Jisung curled a speculative effort into the arms of Vladan Kovacevic just after the restart, with the Norwich goalkeeper previously been something of a spectator on the day.

However, he would be picking the ball out of his net on 53 minutes.

Vipotnik darted ahead of Jose Cordoba inside the area, and was clearly tugged back by the Canaries defender, prompting referee Thomas Parsons to award Swansea their third spot kick in six games.

The number nine then made no mistake in rolling home for his 25th goal in all competitions of the season.

Vipotnik would soon make way for Adam Idah, and a flurry of bookings and substitutions appeared to put the brakes on further opportunities.

But the hosts would be handed a reprieve seven minutes from time, as Vigouroux was penalised for clattering into substitute Mathias Kvistgaarden while attempting to punch away a cross.

McClean powered the resulting spot kick straight down the middle and into the net.

The Canaries skipper flicked a near-post header just wide from a corner a few minutes later, but Swansea held firm to emerge with a point.
