Watford head coach Ed Still revealed Kwadwo Baah was left as an unused substitute in the 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United because he "hasn't had the impact I wanted".
Baah has come off the bench in the Hornets' last three games, but Still believes he made "no impact" at Oxford United last weekend and was not convinced he would have improved Saturday's performance.
More: Still adamant he is the man to lead significant change after another defeat
Still is the fourth head coach to limit Baah's minutes this season, after Paulo Pezzolano and Javi Gracia were reluctant to use him and Charlie Daniels held him back in his two matches in interim charge.
Now Still is seeking more from the winger, who applauded Watford fans alone after the game and was reluctantly dragged back into the main group.
Still said: "You've got eight [outfield] players on the bench and you can only make five changes.
"He hasn't had the impact I've wanted. He came on last week and there was no impact.
"Why take a gamble every week, flip a coin up in the air and see what happens?
"At some point you want to see more and then you reap the rewards or not."

Still revealed that several players had reported late for training and been told not to join in with the session this week, listing "culture" as one of several factors behind this end-of-season malaise.

Several head coaches have struggled to get the tune out of Watford squads that they would like and the head coach believes it is going to take a communal effort to make serious changes.
He said: "It is what it is, it's not just me having to crack it.
"I know the nature of football today is all about the head coach but it's about everybody in the building.
"Everybody - players, staff, people around the team, it's on all of us to find the answers, to be able to push and to change something for this not to be accepted."
