Kayembe and Selvik make returns to Watford from the World Cup

Egil Selvik and Edo Kayembe have made their delayed summer returns to Watford after the World Cup.

Both players were knocked out of the tournament by England, Selvik's Norway in the quarter-finals and Kayembe of DR Congo at the last-32 stage, and are now back in the mix ahead of the start of the 2026/27 campaign.

Selvik's future at Vicarage Road is a little uncertain, considering the likely arrival of goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia from Bologna, who would presumably expect to be number one.

But no imminent move away appears to have been lined up for the 28-year-old, who is also now competing with Daniel Bachmann, Alfie Marriott and Jonathan Macaulay.

Kayembe returns having signed a one-year extension to his Watford contract, which will now run until the summer of 2027.

Edoardo Bove and Hector Kyprianou have been the senior midfielders used in pre-season so far, while Iker Bravo plays in the advanced areas that Kayembe will most likely be competing for minutes in.

Neither player is likely to be involved in matches imminently, with various medical testing taking place this week, but they should soon add to the senior numbers available to Alessio Dionisi.

Nestory Irankunda is also back at London Colney, amid reports strongly linking him with a move to Sporting CP in Portugal.
