WORK is well underway on the Vitality Stadium expansion and the ground is a hive of construction activity.

New black seats have been installed in parts of the north stand, with other areas in the stand without seating at this stage, with the side panelling on stands removed while work is carried out.

Scaffolding is up around the ground and work is progressing on the new route of the cycle path that will divert around a new outside broadcast compound behind the south stand.

Work on diverting the current path began yesterday, June 15, and this will take four weeks to complete.

The first phase of the scheme is the enabling works, which was approved back in January by BCP Council and has been progressing since.

That will see the outside broadcast compound constructed, along with a new perimeter fence with turnstiles and foundations for the new south stand.

The outdoor terraces of Bubbles and Champions in the main stand will be covered, as work accelerates on the main scheme, which was approved last month.

The initial work this summer will see two corners filled in and the new south stand will be started, behind the current south stand, which will remain open next season.

The ground will expand to more than 20,000 seats from its current 11,300 once construction is completed, with capacity added in all four corners, in extensions to the north and east stands, and with the new south stand.
