Chelsea linked with Brighton striker Danny Welbeck

The 35-year-old is said to be ‘appealing’ to new Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso, who seeks experience for his squad.
On July 27th, football Journalist David Ornstein took to X to post about the transfer possibility.
Ornstein wrote: “Chelsea exploring move to sign Danny Welbeck from Brighton & Hove Albion.
“Terms end 2027 and Brighton (are) aware of interest. Early stage but optimism on all sides (that a) deal can be done.
“Quality and leadership appeals to Xabi Alonso.”
However, this has not been confirmed by Brighton.
Last season, Danny made 37 league appearances for The Seagulls, scoring 13 goals.
Signing from Watford on a free in 2020, Welbeck’s leadership has been pivotal for Brighton.
His initial one-year contract was extended, and he’s become a household name at the Amex Stadium.
Back in 2020, it seemed like Welbeck’s last chance to prove his quality in the Premier League.
He's certainly shown his class on the pitch. He's now Brighton's all-time top scorer in the top flight.
Welbeck's 13 goals last season make him the third player in Premier League history to score more than 10 goals in a season at the age of 35 or over.
He joins Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gary McAllister, who have previously achieved the feat.
When he hit double figures in back-to-back seasons, Albion boss Hurzeler was full of praise.
He had said: "It’s his effort, it’s how he behaves as a professional, how he is there for the team off and on the pitch.
“I’ve been working with him for a couple of years now and he seems to be in his best shape ever.
“For me, it’s no coincidence with how hard he works. It’s just impressive.
“Together with our medical department, they do a great job.
“Together with his team-mates, he always tries to push himself and therefore, for me, it's no coincidence.”
There were even calls for him to be involved in England's World Cup squad this summer.
In total, he’s made 176 club appearances, with 42 goals to his name.
