Brendan Wiredu first words after joining Salford from Argyle

Wiredu played as a late substitute for Argyle in their 3-1 League One season-opening defeat by Stockport County at Home Park last Saturday.

Now the 26-year-old midfielder is set to be part of Salford's squad for their home league game against Chesterfield tomorrow lunchtime.

Wiredu said: "I’m buzzing to be here and I can’t wait to get started. We know what the ambition is and what we want to do this season, so to come here and be a part of that is a key reason why I wanted to join and be part of a successful team.

"I’m someone that leaves it all on the pitch, out of possession relentless, someone that’s going to be in the opposition’s face.

"On the ball calm and composed, get it down and play, and here and there add a few goals in. Hopefully I can add a lot to what is already a very talented squad."

Wiredu made a total of 43 appearances for Argyle, including 26 starts, and scored four goals after signing from Fleetwood Town last summer.

His departure from Home Park is likely to allow the Pilgrims to make two new signings - a direct replacement for him in central midfield and an attacking wide player - before the end of the summer transfer window on September 1.

Argyle said on their official club website: "In his time with the club, Brendan has been a terrific professional, and an inspiration in starting up his Brendan Wiredu Foundation to help sport for positive societal change. Good luck, Brendan, with the next challenge in your career."

Wiredu said about his foundation: "From where I have come from in East London, I’m very much a community person, brought up in a community household, so I want to give something back.

"Being able to share my knowledge and experiences through to a younger generation through sports is key and it will hopefully help them on the right track."

Wiredu's new team-mates at Salford will include a former Argyle duo - defender Will Aimson and midfielder Matt Butcher.
