Coventry City FC issue statement on fans' 'shop attack' after Man City loss

Coventry City FC said it is 'disappointed' over allegations Sky Blues fans were behind an incident at a shop in Manchester.

The club has told CoventryLive that it is working with both Greater Manchester Police and West Midlands Police over the allegations, which it says takes 'extremely seriously'.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that investigations are underway to trace a group of Coventry FC fans following an alleged assault and thefts at a shop in Manchester.

The owner of Go Local Manor Convenience told the Manchester Evening News that around 15 Sky Blues fans came into his shop and helped themselves to more than £250 worth of alcohol and other items.

It is then alleged that a member of staff at the shop in Droylsden was then assaulted when he tried to stop them from leaving.

The incident reportedly took place after the Sky Blues lost 1-0 to Manchester City at the Etihad stadium on Saturday (September 5).

In a statement to CoventryLive, Coventry City FC said: "We are disappointed to learn of the allegations concerning a number of our supporters following an incident while travelling home from Saturday’s fixture in Manchester.

"The club takes such allegations extremely seriously and will work closely with both West Midlands Police and Greater Manchester Police and will provide any assistance and information required to support their investigations."

Investigations are ongoing and anyone with any information is being urged to contact Greater Manchester Police on 101, quoting crime number CRI/06GG/0017732/26.
