Manager appointment 'changed everything' for Salah as Liverpool icon dealt blow

At the end of the season, Salah will also bid farewell to the club after nine years on Merseyside. While his next destination remains unclear, he was previously lined up for a move to PSG.

Spanish newspaper AS reports that the Ligue 1 champions explored a move for Salah as a potential replacement for Lionel Messi, but Enrique is said to have blocked the idea after his appointment in 2023, insisting he 'did not want major stars' added to his squad. PSG then shifted their focus to other targets.

Reports in France at the time suggested that PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi had met with Liverpool forward back in 2023 but that was later rubbished by his Salah's agent, Ramy Abbas Issa.

"He did not [meet him]. That's the short story," Issa wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Al‑Khelaifi then came out and dismissed them. "It’s not true," he said at the time.

"He's a fantastic and amazing player, but we’ve never considered him, to be honest. We know every club would love to have him, but this rumour about us is simply not true."

Al‑Khelaifi then went on to underline the club’s commitment to developing young talent.

"There are a lot of rumours about players, but we are very clear," he added. "We have one of the youngest teams in Europe, if not the youngest, with an average age of 22.5 years.

"We’re building a team for the future with our amazing coach. We have a long-term plan with this team and coach.

"Our players are united, and it's a fantastic group with a great atmosphere.

"In my opinion, we have the best coach in the world right now. He’s building a project for the future."

If AS's report proves accurate and Enrique stays in charge - with L'Equipe reporting that PSG are now moving to offer him a new deal - Salah looks extremely unlikely to have the chance to join the French champions.
