The Egyptian forward confirmed he is departing the Anfield side at the conclusion of the campaign following nine years on Merseyside.

The 33-year-old will be spoilt for choice at the next chapter of his career, with a potentially lucrative switch to Saudi Arabia being mooted as the most likely destination.

Former Red Bjornebye is presently working as a football consultant and advisor at Rangers on an initial six-month arrangement, though an extension to his spell is anticipated.

The ex-Norway international appeared on Egyptian broadcaster Modern MTI's Modern Sports discussion show and was quizzed about Salah's plans, reports the Daily Record.

The 56-year-old confirmed that Salah had been a topic of conversation at Ibrox. Bjornebye said: "I don't know what Mo's plans are - we discussed it at work today as well, as I'm an advisor to Rangers.

"We discussed where he'll go and so on. But I think most people are grateful for what he's done for Liverpool.

"He is a true legend at Liverpool and has achieved a remarkable legacy for a great club. He has delivered exceptional results for them over many seasons.

"There were some heated discussions about his situation last year, but the matter has been resolved and he has remained loyal to Liverpool.

"I think most people can accept that he has given the club many great years and now wants to seize a new opportunity, perhaps embarking on another adventure."

Speaking upon the announcement that his glittering spell with Liverpool was to come to an end, Salah said: "Hello everyone, unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

"I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life.

"Liverpool is not just a football club, it's a passion, it's a history, it's a spirit. I can't explain in words to anyone not part of this club.

"We celebrated victory, we won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our life.

"I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the teammates past and present."
