Paddy Davitt: Oscar and Mo super show in Robins player ratings

Eastern Daily Press · By Paddy Davitt

Paddy Davitt rates Norwich City, who smashed four second half goals past Bristol City for a fifth league win in six away games.

Vladan Kovacevic 7

Looked fairly convinced by his immediate reaction Sam Bell’s late consolation should have been chalked off, after Delano Burgzorg appeared to handle in the build up. Sam Morsy’s early strike caught him by surprise as it flew in the centre of his goal after only 64 seconds.

Smart stop to go full length to parry Emil Riis’ curler. Could only parry Jason Knight’s hit at the feet of Scott Twine, who was adjudged to be in an offside position after he scuffed goalwards and Riis slotted. Flew to his right to keep out Tomi Horvat’s 86th minute strike.

Kellen Fisher 7

Back on familiar turf on the right hand side of the City backline. Couple of big first half clearing headers inside his six yard box. First one from Mark Sykes. Went on the overlap to show for Kenny McLean in first half stoppage time but over-clubbed the cross.

Intention looked to be whipping a ball infield when Paris Maghoma controlled it, before a strike that spun off Mo Toure for his and Norwich’s third goal.

Harry Darling 7

Tremendous last-ditch block as he flung himself to his left inside his box to block a goalbound Twine strike that would have doubled the Robins’ lead. Snap header from a Liam Gibbs’ inswinging cross was at Radek Vitek. Had to get the afterburners on in the 66th minute to intercept as Cameron Pring burst clear.

Decisive clearing header deep inside his own box from Twine’s corner. Strong to race back and lever Emil Riis off the ball, with some of the home fans baying for a penalty.

Arrived unmarked behind Harry Darling to attack McLean’s deep diagonal free kick, but Vitek appeared to misjudge the flight as he dived past the header to complete the scoring for Norwich. Could have had a brace if he had directed Amankwah Forson’s stoppage cross on target.

Right-back at Charlton and home to Portsmouth. Switched to the left for Bristol City. Needed better support from Ali Ahmed in a first half where the Robins looked to work overloads. But the deployment allowed him to cut infield and deliver some probing crosses.

Pelle Mattsson miscued one delivery. Mo Toure was then inches from connecting with an inviting ball in the 38th minute.

Raced onto Ahmed’s ball around the corner to advance with a cutback that was aimed for Paris Maghoma but ran to McLean for a whipped goalwards effort. Drifting cross met by Darling to head at Vitek. Won a late corner after more decent link-up play with Ahmed.

The accuracy of some of his passing is a joy to watch in those deeper-lying pockets. Capped by the thread for Maghoma and Oscar Schwartau to tee up Toure’s second. Clipped a rising shot parried by Vitek in the 17th minute.

Rolled in Maghoma for a shooting chance that was blocked. Attacked a Schwartau corner with one of his trademark near post runs that confused Cameron Pring enough to diver the ball goalwards but his keeper Vitek reacted to push onto the bar.

Quality lift into Schwartau to cross. Quick tap from a free kick for Schwartau to pick out Toure for the leveller. Another perfect roll for Maghoma to drift across the box before he ran into traffic.

Pelle Mattsson 7

Gorgeous lift on a drifting diagonal ball over the Bristol City full back for Ahmed, who sliced wide on his right. Attacked a Gibbs’ cross but miscued while off-balance. Darting break saw him upended to earn the free kick that brought City an equaliser.

Oscar Schwartau 8

Two assists for Toure, and a role reversal from the recent Easter Monday win at Millwall. First a pinpoint cross Vitek did well to parry before Toure followed up. The second was a classy, composed roll after galloping onto Maghoma’s pass to draw Vitek and square for Toure to walk the ball into net.

Early intent in the seventh minute when he cut infield but had a shot blocked. Combined with Maghoma and Fisher but Gibbs was on his heels. Outswinging corner attacked by McLean but Vitek tipped over.

Paris Maghoma 8

Lacked the clinical edge in a bitty first half from Norwich. But underlined his quality with the perfectly-timed throughball for Schwartau to tee up Toure. It was also his step over and shot that smacked Toure to wrong-foot Vitek for the third Norwich goal.

Combined with Fisher and Schwartau but Gibbs was on his heels a touch in the eighth minute. Released Toure, who was levered off it by Neto Borges. Slipped in by McLean but shot was blocked by a red shirt. Pring got in the way of another effort in the 58th minute.

Did not quite work out the defensive distances in tandem with Gibbs down an exposed Norwich left in that first half. No such problems after the interval.

Took some heavy early hits but still showed for the ball under pressure in the 17th minute to help it around the corner for Gibbs to advance. Sliced wide on his right after Mattsson found him with a pinpoint lob over the full back. Another cute reverse ball for the overlapping Gibbs to win a corner in the 74th minute.

Mohamed Toure 9

Life of a striker. First half frustration against a well-drilled home defence. But escaped detection to meet Schwartau’s cross in the 51st minute, and showed his hunger to smash the rebound home after Vitek’s excellent stop.

Then a simple tap in when he got himself on the end of the Dane’s cutback before Maghoma’s strike clipped him and wrong-footed Vitek. But 10 goal contributions in eight league games is some return.

Eased off the ball by Borges in the first half before Gibbs’ cross just evaded him in the six yard box. Booked when he veered around Vitek but went down without any contact for the officials.

Anis Ben Slimane (for Maghoma, 70) 6

Snatched his shot at Vitek from Mathias Kvistgaarden’s set in the middle of the penalty box.

Mathias Kvistgaarden (for Toure, 70) 6

Rolled the ball back for Anis Ben Slimane who scuffed his effort at the home keeper.

Errol Mundle-Smith (for Ahmed, 83) 6

Amankwah Forson (for Schwartau, 83) 6

Picked out Cordoba who screwed his near post header wide.

Jacob Wright (for McLean, 90) 6

Right footed free kick flew over deep in stoppage time.
