Two men charged with incidents during Portsmouth v Southampton derby

Two men have been charged after a pitch invasion and a crutch was thrown at a ball boy during the South Coast derby.

Michael Wilson, 44, of Beedon Way in Eastleigh, was charged with assault by beating and throwing a missile onto a football playing area during.

He is set to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on June 9.

A ball boy suffered a cut to his face after a crutch was thrown onto the pitch during the game between Southampton and Portsmouth on January 26.

Another man, Taylor Rogers, 32, of Havant Road, Portsmouth, has been charged with going onto the playing area at a football match.

He is scheduled to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on April 23.

Investigations by police following the events during the derby are ongoing.

Five arrests were made by police following the game which ended in a 1-1 draw.

A man was seen bursting onto the Fratton Park pitch just after Leo Scienza scored for Saints.

The fan was seen gesticulating at the 2,700 Saints fans before he was taken off the pitch.
