The Terraces Taste Test - Expensive and forgettable night at the London Stadium

At £8.35 for the pizza twist and another eye-watering £5.15 for a bottle of Fanta, the total came to £13.50 – crazy expensive, even by London standards.

For what was ultimately a fairly simple piece of matchday food and a soft drink, it was difficult to find much value here.

Stadium prices are rarely kind to the wallet, but this felt particularly steep.

Unfortunately, the service did little to improve the experience.

It wasn't the slickest or most memorable operation, although I did at least receive a receipt, something that isn't always guaranteed when navigating busy football-ground concourses.

The pizza twist itself looked decent enough and provided an interesting alternative after discovering there were no pies on offer, but at £8.35, expectations were inevitably raised.

In fairness, there was nothing particularly wrong with the food.

The combination of mozzarella and salami worked well, and the pizza twist was enjoyable enough to eat.

The problem was that 'nice enough' simply isn't enough at this price.

There was nothing about the flavour or quality that justified paying more than £8 for it, and it lacked the sort of standout quality that would make me seek one out again.

As football food goes, the pizza twist was at least straightforward to eat.

It didn't present any major problems in terms of mess or practicality, making it a convenient option to take back towards the stands.

Unfortunately, convenience can only carry a matchday meal so far when the price is this difficult to swallow.

An easily forgettable food experience to accompany a performance on the pitch I wish I could forget.

The mozzarella and salami pizza twist was perfectly pleasant, but £13.50 for it and a Fanta represents extremely poor value.

Nothing disastrous, nothing particularly memorable, and certainly nothing that would have me rushing back for another.

The London Stadium food test won't live long in the memory – probably for the best, given the football that accompanied it.

It's not the worst that we have had this season; that title still belongs to Swansea City.

Next up is a trip to Derby County after the long international break; let's hope for a better showing on and off the pitch.
