Albion new boy heads on loan to play for former Prem wideman

An Albion summer signing is heading to Spain on loan.

And he will play for a head coach who knows what it takes to play as a wideman in the Premier League.

Former Benfica winger Rodrigo Rego will spend the season at Castellon in the Spanish second tier.

The 21-year-old will be challenged to impress in their first team.

Rego will come under the orders of head coach and former wideman Pablo Hernandez.

The current Castellon boss played in the Prem for Michael Laudrup's Swansea City and really shone in the Championship for Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United.

Like Rego, he mainly operated wide on the right.

Albion have made good use of the temporary transfer system in recent years and another busy season for loans boss Gordon Greer looks in prospect.

Rego signed for earlier in this transfer window from Benfica on a five-year deal.

Albion sporting director Mike Cave said: “We have high hopes for Rodrigo and we’re looking forward to seeing him get the opportunity to play regularly at first team level. “We will monitor his progress closely throughout the season.”

Castellon grabbed the final play-off spot last season and then went out to Almeria in the semi-finals.
