Fabian Hurzeler says England’s World Cup was a success under Thomas Tuchel.

But they can do even better if they find a clear and consistent style of play and conquer some fear.

The Albion head coach has messaged his compatriot and counterpart with the Three Lions since they lost 2-1 to Argentina in the semi-final.

He has reiterated his belief that England were hit by fear after going ahead through Anthony Gordon.

And he has highlighted that Tuchel is working with individuals who play different styles with their clubs in terms of build-up play.

He believes a prime example of that is Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford working with defenders from Manchester City.

But he is confident those issues can be overcome.

Hurzeler said: “It will be a challenge but it will be definitely possible.

“I texted him because for me it was a success.

“It might seem strange now because everyone wanted to win the World Cup.

“But I think not they have built a foundation.

“They were resilient, they had great comebacks, they showed great togetherness.

“For me they had the values you need in a top team to win a top title and to be a World Cup champion.

“It is just now getting this clear style of play into everyone’s head and for that you need consistency.”

Hurzeler repeated his belief that England struggled for the right mindset when they led Argentina.

He told talkSPORT: “After they scored the goal, I had the feeling that the players were afraid of winning.

“They had this very passive behaviour, everyone individually and then, of course, as a team.

“They put the whole focus on the outcome.

“The whole focus was we can really get to the final.

“By only focussing on the outcome, I think they missed focussing on the next action.

“What is the next action we can really control?

“I always say control the controllables.”
