Lampard junior causes dad Frank 'problem' over iconic Bobby Thomas goal and song

Frank Lampard has drawn up a shortlist in his head of his favourite Coventry City goals up for the vote of best of the season at the club’s annual awards.

And the Sky Blues boss has revealed that his little boy, Freddie, has been trying to recreate one of them – Bobby Thomas’s iconic header at Blackburn Rovers that confirmed the Championship club’s automatic promotion back to the Premier League. The youngster has also taken to singing the popular defender’s song, which has proved somewhat awkward for his dad and City head coach, given the colourful use of language in the chant that’s routinely belted out by the fans at matches.

“I was looking at the goals of the season last night and it was great because there are too many and they are all too good in their own way, which is a good thing,” said Lampard, whose side have rattled in an incredible 90 goals en-route to winning the league.

Asked if he’s narrowed it down to two or three favourites, he said: “Yeah, I have in my head and it was hard because I could say, ‘oh yeah, Ephron’s overhead kick at Stoke, that’s the one for me.’ And I then thought what about Rudi’s goal, what about Grimesy going back to Swansea and scoring, and then you think about Bobby Thomas at Blackburn and the emotional impact of it, and I think that’s got a chance.

“It’s typical Bobby to come in at the end of the season and try to get some credit with a great goal. It’s just good that there’s a big variety there and the choosing out of 90 goals is not easy, so someone’s whittled it down.”

He added: “It was an amazing moment when Bobby scored. My boy is bang into football now and he spent the days after Blackburn re-watching the goal and the technical delivery from Torpy and Bobby’s jump is really outstanding. So there’s a way to do it rather than scuffing it in. But that header, the quality of it was great.”

As for whether his lad has been trying to recreate the goal in the garden, the City boss said: “Yeah, and it’s not easy to recreate that when you’re five. And he was actually singing Bobby Thomas’s song, which is a problem when you’re five as well!”

For those not familiar with Bobby's song, it goes: "Bobby Thomas... Bobby Thomas... He comes from Chester, he hates the Leicester and his head is ******* massive!"
