Wrexham take swipe at Sky Blues amid Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney gesture

Coventry Telegraph · Brian Dick

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has hit out at Coventry City’s ticket prices after their vistit to the CBS Arena was designated a Category A+.

That means visiting fans will have to pay £45 for Sunday's game, placing it on a par with local derby fixtures like Birmingham City, West Brom and Leicester City.

The Sky Blues have regularly come under fire for their pricing strategy under Doug King – and the price of attending the lunchtime kick-off has once again drawn comment.

Indeed Parkinson revealed that Wrexham’s celebrity owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have looked to ease the fincancial burden on away fans by providing free travel.

"I'm sure Coventry fans will sympathise with our supporters, with the ticket prices," Parkinson said. "Because I think one thing which unifies supporters across the EFL is ticket pricing and I feel for our supporters a lot.

"They've come down to Oxford on Tuesday, and then £45 and £35 for concessions it's a lot. I don't think anybody can deny that and our supporters have been amazing for us, and our owners have decided to put on the free coaches to help with that cost and that's great from them."

City have already been confirmed as champions while Wrexham regained sixth spot and a place in the play-offs after winning 1-0 at Oxford in midweek. They are level on points with seventh placed Hull City and four ahead of Derby in eighth.
