Leeds United confirm Max Wöber departure as contract torn up for wantaway star

The 28-year-old has barely played for Leeds for three years having spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach following Leeds' relegation to the Championship. He returned the following season to play eight times as the club won promotion back to the Premier League, but was then allowed to leave on loan again last season at Werder Bremen, where he picked up a serious knee injury and played just three games.

Having had little chance to impress Bremen, the German side did not offer him a chance to stay there, however another Bundesliga outfit in Schalke are closing in on his signature. In an effort to get a deal done as quickly as possible Wober is being allowed to leave, with Leeds not seeing a future for the player at Elland Road.

The Whites have confirmed his departure in a statement, which reads; "Leeds United can confirm defender Max Wöber has left the club after the two parties agreed to mutually terminate his contract. The Austrian joined the Whites in 2023 from RB Salzburg and featured 19 times in his debut season across all competitions.

"Wöber made eight league appearances for the club in the Sky Bet Championship title winning campaign of 2024/25, scoring one goal, before joining Bundesliga side Werder Bremen on loan last term. Max now departs Elland Road on a permanent basis and we wish him well for the future."
