Leeds United closing in on next transfer after Trafford as £75m clause suggested

Former Juventus centre-back Muharemovic has become Leeds' second-most expensive signing after joining in a £34.1million deal. Free agent Julian Brandt is also being eyed by Daniel Farke's side along with Liverpool star Harvey Elliott.

Trafford has now emerged as a firm transfer target with talks having taken place and Leeds leading the race to sign him from Manchester City with Newcastle United no longer interested.

Exits from Elland Road are also expected with confirmation of Max Wober's contract being terminated arriving earlier this week. And now Harrison is also set to depart and make a return to the MLS having spent the last eight years either contracted to or playing for Leeds.

With all of that being said, LeedsLive have taken a closer look at the latest Trafford and Harrison updates with a different perspective provided on the two deals.

The New England Revolution are closing in on a deal for Harrison, according to The Athletic. Their report has stated that the 29-year-old will join as a designated player, which is a rule that allows teams to sign up to three players that would be considered outside their salary cap, by either paying a transfer fee or higher wages.

With Harrison having 12 months remaining on his contract, it remains to be seen whether a fee will be paid or a mutual agreement reached that allows him to join New England.

He made 13 appearances for Leeds last season before joining Serie A side Fiorentina on loan. He managed one goal and three assists during that spell.

LeedsLive says: Harrison still being a Leeds player in 2026 is quite something but his spell in Yorkshire finally looks set to conclude.

Even if any potential transfer fee is not that high, some hefty wages will be removed from their books and that could open the door for more signings.

Harrison is set to depart having made a remarkable 219 appearances with 34 goals and 32 assists arriving since his first season at the club back in 2018.

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has laughed off the suggestion of James Trafford wanting a release clause in his potential Leeds United contract.

Man City and the Whites have been in talks for the England international with the former wanting £50m to sell. It has also been claimed that Trafford wants a release clause in his deal. Though it would result in potential profit down the line, MacAnthony has claimed that it could be an issue.

When learning of his possible request, MacAnthony suggested on talkSPORT: "Wow, for what, £75million? The most expensive goalie in the world. I love it, but I'm not paying £50m for someone dictating to me a release clause. I'm sorry."

LeedsLive says: Trafford's reported release clause desire is not too surprising given he is swapping Man City for Leeds at 23, but it could pose potential problems.

Considering how much Leeds may have to pay, their new signing possibly already thinking about the future is not exactly the best feeling.

If it is to be included, however, Farke and Co. will almost want it to be quite significant in order to protect themselves and not tempt interested parties into making a move.
