Wrexham loss hands Saints chance to move within one point of play-offs

Daily Echo · By George Rees-Julian

WREXHAM'S 2-1 defeat to Hull City has handed Saints a chance to cut the gap between themselves and the Championship play-off places to just one point.

Saints must beat relegation-threatened West Brom on Wednesday evening to take full advantage of the Red Dragons' slip-up against play-off hunting rivals Hull.

Phil Parkinson's side had not lost in the Championship since mid-February, and will be without top goalscorer Kieffer Moore after he suffered an injury against Chelsea.

A win for Tonda Eckert's charges at the Hawthorns would move them up to 56 points, just one fewer than Wrexham, who currently sit sixth.

The Baggies are yet to win a Championship game in 2026, and have dropped into the relegation places after Leicester's win over Bristol City.

Saints, unbeaten in their last 10 games across the league and cup, will back themselves to beat a side led by interim manager James Morrison.

Seventh-place Derby County also lost on Tuesday evening, falling to a 1-0 defeat at third-place Millwall, further reducing their hopes of snatching the final play-off spot.
