Watford confirm departure of Semedo on loan to FC Alverca

Watford striker Vivaldo Semedo has joined Portuguese club FC Alverca on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old forward scored four goals in 28 appearances during the 2025/26 campaign, including winners against Hull City and Norwich City, as well as two equalisers against Sheffield Wednesday.

He largely remained third-choice to Luca Kjerrumgaard and Mamadou Doumbia, though, and has now been loaned out to gain more first-team experience in the Portuguese top flight.

The Watford Observer reported interest from giants Porto and Benfica in the striker earlier this summer, though the more concrete approaches had come from middling Liga Portugal sides.

Alverca finished 11th last season and Semedo, a youth international for his country, will aim to establish himself further in his homeland.

He was namechecked by Ed Still as struggling to deal with a lack of minutes towards the end of last season, so a move away was always possible.

It has been reported that Kjerrumgaard will remain with the Hornets on loan from Udinese for 2026/27, the Dane having returned to London Colney for pre-season and scored in Tuesday's 2-2 draw at Barnet.
