Two-time Watford striker continues his career in non-league

Watford academy graduate Britt Assombalonga, who returned to the club in 2023, is continuing his playing career in the sixth tier of English football.

Assombalonga has signed for National League North side Harborough Town after his release from Barnet at the end of last season.

The 33-year-old made his Hornets debut as a teenager in a 0-0 draw against Coventry City in March 2012 but only made four appearances before he was sold to Peterborough for a seven-figure fee in 2013.

He impressed in one campaign at London Road and signed for Nottingham Forest and then Middlesbrough in the Championship, a division in which his all-time tally of 77 goals is only bettered by 24 players.

A move to Adana Demirspor in Turkey followed, before a return to Vicarage Road during which he scored twice in 11 appearances.

The 10-cap DR Congo international returned to Turkey with Antalyaspor and Amedspor, before scoring twice in 18 appearances for Barnet last season.

Harborough boss Mitch Austin said: "With Britt moving locally, we had the opportunity to bring him in for pre-season and see whether he still had the bit between his teeth.

"I'm going to be on him because I want him to have a high-scoring season with us. We want to get the best out of him while making sure he enjoys his football."
